Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how SwappEx (“SwappEx”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the SwappEx mobile application (the “App”), a community service for giving and receiving items for free with neighbors.

1. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address — to create and sign in to your account (including via Google Sign-In).
- Name (first and last) — shown to other community members you interact with.
- Phone number — for account creation/verification and, after you agree to a handover, shared with the other party to coordinate pickup/delivery.
Location
- Approximate location (city) — the city you select or that we detect, used to show nearby items and to label your listings.
- Precise location (GPS) — used, with your permission, to detect your city and to coordinate pickup/delivery points. Precise coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap/Nominatim to convert them into an address/city (see Third parties).
Photos and images
- Item photos you capture with the camera or choose from your gallery to include in a listing. Selected photos are uploaded to our servers and shown publicly within the App as part of your listing.
User content and activity
- Item listings / user content — titles, descriptions, categories, condition, and the city of items you post.
- Messages — text you send to coordinate a handover with another member.
- Claim data — requests to receive an item and the status of a handover (e.g., requested, confirmed, in transit, completed, cancelled).
- Notifications — in-app notifications about your items and claims (e.g., someone requested your item, a message was received). Delivered by in-app polling; we do not currently use push notifications.
Moderation and administration
- Admin / moderation data — for accounts with moderator rights, we keep an audit log of moderation actions (e.g., hiding a listing) including the moderator’s identity, the action, the affected item/user, an optional reason, and a timestamp. This is used to keep the community safe and to maintain accountability.
- Reports/flags you submit about listings.
What we do NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers and no advertising.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs are included in the App.
2. How we use information
- To provide the core service: accounts, listings, search, claims, messaging, and handover coordination.
- To show items relevant to your area.
- To keep the community safe (moderation, handling reports, preventing abuse).
- To contact you about your account or requests.
3. How information is shared
- With other members: your display name, your listings (title, description, photos, city), and your community activity are visible to other members. When a handover is confirmed, contact details (e.g., phone number) are shared with the other party to that handover so you can coordinate.
- We do not sell your personal data and do not share it for advertising.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the service.
4. Third-party services
- Google Sign-In — used for authentication. When you sign in, Google provides us your email address and basic profile (name). Google’s handling of your data is governed by Google’s privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — fonts may be fetched from Google’s servers; this can expose your device IP address and request metadata to Google.
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — used for map tiles and to convert location coordinates into an address/city. When this feature is used, location coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap’s services.
5. Data retention
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you request deletion (see below), we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except data we must retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or audit reasons (for example, moderation audit logs, or records needed to comply with the law), which we keep only as long as necessary for those purposes.
6. Your rights and choices
- You can access and update your profile in the App.
- You can control location and photo permissions in your device settings.
- You can request deletion of your account and data — see Delete your account.
7. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
8. Children
SwappEx is not directed to children. Do not use the App if you are under the age required to form a binding contract in your country.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date on this page.
